The book has given me some more sympathy for those who oppose, as an entire concept, ‘housing commodification’ or reliance on market mechanisms for solving housing. From their perspective, the American housing market, and the ability for a households to build wealth from it, are entirely predicated on maintaining distance from African Americans. They feel that any solution that relies on the market and/or fails to decommodify, will just allow the continuation of this injustice, and ultimately fail.
